Petra and Andy Eaglesfield have sailed their 34 foot yacht “Vaila” to the Mediterranean from our base on the west coast of Scotland.
2013 saw us set off from Scotland and we sailed down the Irish Sea stopping at lots of interesting places and ending up in northern Spain. We spent August, September and half of October exploring the north west coast of Spain (Asturias and Galicia). Vaila spent the winter at Vilagarcia Marina and was well looked after while we went home for the winter.
We arrived back in Spain in mid April 2014 and sailed down the Atlantic coast of Portugal and into the Med. We visited lots of lovely places on the mainland of Portugal and Spain and then for Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca. In October we left Vaila in Olbia, Sardinia for the winter.
We returned to Sardinia in late April 2015 for more adventures, leaving Olbia in late May and sailing via Corsica, Elba, the west coast of Italy and Siciliy to the Ionian islands in Greece. The roman ruins of Ostia, Rome and Pompei and the Aeolian islands with their volcanoes were highlights. The low point was the storm in Corfu which left Vaila aground on a beach and needing a tug to pull her off. Luckily, there was no structural damage and after several weeks on the hard, we set sail again to the wonderful islands of Levkas, Kefalonia, Meganissi and Kalamos.
Hi Petra and Andy, all the best for your Journey and greetings from a sailing week at the Côte d’Azur.
Walter
Thanks Walter. Lovely to hear from you and glad you are getting some sailing in. Hope the weather is better for you than for us, as it is now raining here 😦
